March 18, 2017 Newsletter

Our March meeting was held at the Folk Art Center in Asheville with 21 members and guests present.  There was lots of new business with the primary item being the printing of a brochure for our club.  As you know, we are well along the way to completion of this brochure, as a rough draft has been sent to our members for comments.  Please be sure to get your comments to Jim Davis (james.davis@main.nc.us) by April 25.  Eleven people submitted photos of their work for possible use to illustrate our brochure.  Dave Peck, Ellen Kisker, and Ken Horner are acting as the judges to pick the photos for use in the brochure.  Those chosen are asked to bring the original item to our meeting May6 so that Al Spicer can do a professional photo for use in the brochure.  The ones chosen will be notified around April 25.  The finished brochure should be available around the end of May.  If you want copies of this brochure on hand, please notify Jim Davis (e-mail above) as soon as possible so we can be sure to get enough printed.

Upcoming Events

May 6 Meeting at Herzog Veneer

July 29 Meeting at Sauers Veneer

September 16 Meeting at Al Spicer’s

November 4 Meeting at Klingspor, Hickory

The Klingspor Woodworking show will be held this year on October 27 and 28 in Hickory.  We will have more discussion about our participation at future meetings.

Also, it is time to begin thinking about entering a picture in competition at the NC State Fair in October.  More discussion on this at a later meeting also.

As shown in the box above, our next meeting will be at Herzog Veneer in High Point, NC on May 6.  As always, the meeting will get underway with refreshments at 10:00 am and a short business meeting.  After the business, Charlie Brown will do a demo on his compass rose design.  Then we all get to enter the “candy store” and shop for veneer!  I know Sam and Sabrina will have lots of interesting items for us to choose from, so be prepared!  If you want a particular veneer, please let me know by April 25 and I’ll pass that along to them.  If they have it available, they will pull some out for us.
