From Beth Woody

Below are the minutes of the meeting at Al Spicer’s, and if you missed it, you really missed a good one!  Also included is information regarding our next meeting, which will be July 11, 2015 at Herzog Veneer in High Point.  As usual, this will be one of the better meetings because we will be able to purchase veneer.

Of course, if anyone has any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask me.

Hope to see all of you there! Beth

Dear Fellow Marquetarians,

The Marquetarians of the Carolinas met May 23 at Al Spicer’s shop.  We had about 30 members and guests present – what a great turnout!  There was a show and tell with about 10 items discussed.

During a short business meeting, we discussed ordering tee shirts, polo shirts, and tote bags with our logo embroidered on them.  An order form showing colors, sizes and cost will be available at the July meeting and delivery of the items will be at the September meeting.

Our program consisted of a beginner’s workshop , with each student using the manual fret saw (Clyde saw).  We had 15 people signed up to take the workshop.  Bonnie Richardson led the workshop with several members assisting.  Although we had only a short time for this workshop, each student completed their tulip pattern, and everyone seemed to be comfortable using the Clyde saw by the end of the session.   Al Spicer then gave a short talk on how to mount the picture at home.

While the workshop was going on, there were several other demos also in progress:  sharpening the veneer saw, trying out Al’s reproduction chevalet, and sand shading.

A great time was had by all, and the students were quite pleased with the results of their labors.  The consensus was it was a great meeting.

Our next meeting will be July 11 at Herzog Veneer in High Point.  The program for that meeting will be a discussion of the veneer industry by Sam and Sabrina Parisette-Herzog.  As usual, our meetings will get underway at 10; refreshments will be available.  Any person interested in marquetry is very welcome at our meetings.  For this meeting only, we will have the business meeting, program, shopping time and then adjourn for lunch.  If anyone has a request for a specific veneer, please let me know ASAP so I can pass it along to Sam and Sabrina to see if they have any of it in stock.  Directions to the nearby K&W Cafeteria will be available at the meeting.
